WA's strata law
Five year review of WA's strata law
The State Government has initiated a five-year statutory review of Western Australia’s Strata Titles Act 1985, featuring two public consultation phases. The first phase, starting in October 2024, aims to identify key issues, which will be analyzed further ahead of the second consultation in early 2025. During the second phase, proposed reforms will be shared for public feedback.
Both consultation phases will include a discussion paper and an online feedback form, encouraging anyone with a stake in improving strata laws to participate.
The review builds on the comprehensive reforms introduced in 2020, seeking to enhance clarity and fairness for strata owners, residents, and industry professionals. The process will be guided by three key themes, shaping the research and focus of consultations.
1. Improving cost controls in strata titles schemes.
2. Enhance strata living.
3. Strata manager practice and standards.
Landgate is overseeing the review and managing the consultation process on behalf of the Minister for Lands. A final report will be prepared for Parliament, with its completion expected from mid-2025.
Phase one consultation – open 1 to 31 October 2024.
